Marbling Paper With Shaving Cream

The Pre-K Students had tons of fun marbling paper last week. A layer of shaving cream on the table and some drops of liquid watercolor were swirled around with a fork. Students then pressed their paper and squeeged it off with a piece of cardboard to reveal beautiful marbled effects.

This year classes can earn up to 6 points for the categories on the right. All classes begin the month on green and if they earn all 6 points they move up a level. If they lose a point they stay on the same level and if they lose 2 points they drop a level. Students in the red zone may listen to music during their art period. Students in the purple zone are in danger of losing a special art project.

Tables Ready!

At the end of the class a student from the helper table puts up the tables (named after shapes this year) that are clean and quiet first, this is the order we line up in. Boy do they clean up fast and you can hear a pin drop

The curtain rod tension wire from IKEA is still strong and working great for quick change art displays in the art room. I highly recommend them and would like to put some in my home studio as well.

JFK Elementary is the National WINNER in the Bounty Make a Clean Difference Art Room Makeover Contest! Thank you everyone for voting this is a dream come true. Our Art Room will be redesigned by Robert and Cortney from Bravo's 9 by Design sometime in September. I wonder what our new room will look like? :)

Congratulations to valjul! Her Mona Lisa Parody was selected to appear on a display that will travel the country teaching other children how to make artwork inspired by masterpieces. A portion of the proceeds from the rental of this display will go to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Great Work!

Look Who's Coming to J.F.K.

From April 26th - 28th we will host a van Gogh exhibit. Our students will have a gallery experience right inside our school building. During their regularly scheduled art class students will visit 3 van Gogh paintings in order to learn about the artist and his incredible work. Thanks so much to our PTO for funding this amazing experience!

Snow Sculpture

Why build an everyday, average snowman? The next time it snows try to build a Goldsworthy inspired sculpture. Andy Goldsworthy only uses objects found in nature to create his sculptures. In this work of art he created blocks of snow and then carved organic shapes out of the back to let the sunshine through. If you build a snow sculpture be sure to photograph right after you build it and as it melts!
